Here are some signs you may benefit from therapy:

  • You experience effects of trauma such as:

    • Nightmares, particularly involving a central event, theme, or person.

    • You find yourself being hypervigilant, meaning you are extra sensitive to your surroundings, and feel fearful of potential or hidden dangers.

    • You sometimes feel like you are back in a certain situation - you lose your present surroundings and can now see, hear, and smell everything that was present at the time of a traumatic experience.

    • You avoid certain places, people, or situations due to your painful experience with them.

  • You feel alone, like no one understands you. Maybe you even feel like you must be “crazy” sometimes.

  • You feel helpless, hopeless, or worthless.

If you are experiencing thoughts of harming yourself or someone else, please call 988 or 911. More information here.

  • You experience panic attacks: these can feel like random periods of intense fear, which usually coincides with your heart beating faster, feeling as though you can’t get a deep breath, and feeling either very cold or very hot.

  • You feel concerned that you are repeating certain patterns in your life that are not resulting in your desired outcome, however, you can’t seem to find a way to do things differently no matter how hard you have tried.

  • You’re struggling to adjust to a new situation, even if that new situation is a wonderful thing (such as a new baby, marriage, or job).

I mean, life is hard for everyone, right? Do I really need therapy?

All of these experiences are completely valid and are likely, at least in part, outcomes of your past experiences. I can help you to unravel the tangled thoughts in your head, and together we can make sense of what’s really going on. I can also offer various coping skills and referrals when appropriate.
